So you’ve finished the first draft of a piece, but you know it needs some work. It isn’t where you want it to be, what you know it could be. There’s something there, but every time you go back in, you can’t make it sing. You might pull the piece out, stare at it, and think: Where do I start?
This class will give you tried and true revision techniques to help sculpt your work into its truest form. These methods are both challenging and enlightening, and they run the gamut from prescriptive and practical to open-ended and creative.
In this course, we’ll apply different revision strategies to a piece of our own work in order to find a new way into the draft. We’ll complete short exercises in class, receive support and guidance from each other on our successes and failures, and work through longer prompts outside of class. You’ll come to class with a rough draft and finish it with a polished piece, as well as new strategies to help tackle revisions of future work. This active craft course is ideal for any writer who feels stuck in a piece or overwhelmed by the thought of revision.
