In this class, we’ll discuss classic and contemporary essays, generate new work that utilizes craft techniques we’ve gleaned from readings, and give and receive feedback in a supportive community. The readings will vary from whimsical contemplations of vegetables to pointed critiques of race in America. You’ll develop new writing during class meetings and receive feedback on two longer pieces. At the end of this course, you’ll walk away with a better understanding of what a personal essay is and how to write an effective and emotionally poignant one.
